Viña Requingua
Viña Requingua means corner of the winds in the endangered Mapudungun language of the Mapuche people living in Chile and Argentina. The farm was founded in 1961 by Santiago Achurra Larraín and twenty years later the second generation Santiago Achurra Hernandez joined. The Achurra family has purposefully grown and developed the operation of the farm for decades, for example by building a new winery, and by starting to bottle their own wines. In 2016, the estate was listed on the 100 Best Wineries of the World list as a good indication of the successful work.
Benoit Fitte from Armagnac has been responsible for both viticulture and winemaking as the farm's technical manager for almost 25 years. In his previous career, Benoit has worked for, among others, Taittinger and Château Montus. The farm's main winemaker is Eloísa Uribe, who has also been at the farm's bread for twenty years, first gaining experience in both Bordeaux and California. Next to Eloísa in the cellar is Filipa Morgado, a portuguese oenologist.
Viña Requingua, which started with a 50-hectare orchard, today owns up to 1067 hectares in 13 different orchards in different valleys of Chile, Casablanca, Colchagua, Curicó and Maule. The Toro de Piedran Carginan in Viinitie's selections comes from Maule, where the soil and climate are very diverse. The gardens have been planted at different times and the oldest vines are over 60 years old. Several different varieties grow in the orchards, and the wines are divided into seven different categories in total.
Viña Requingua also wants to play its part for the environment and its future. Trees have been planted around the winery to increase natural biodiversity. In addition, we work hard to minimize energy and electricity consumption, and the facility is also Amfori-certified, which guarantees ethical and legal operating methods with regard to the workforce. All the farm's wines are also vegan-friendly. The winery is Certified Sustainable Wine of Chile certified.
