PMC Muenzenrieder
Peter and Christoph Muenzenrieder's winery is located in a wonderful area in Austria, right next to the nature park around Lake Neusiedl. The region's warm climate is favorable for the production of strong red wines, fruity white wines, and balanced sweet wines. The abbreviation PMC comes from the names of the Muenzenrieder brothers, Peter and Christoph. The winery started when the brothers took over the vineyards owned by their parents in 1999. Now the original 4 hectares have been grown to cover up to 20 hectares of vineyards.
Half of Muenzenrieder's production is red wines, a quarter white wines and the rest sweet wines. The basis of the farm's precise garden work is limiting the amount of crops and controlling the growth of the vines so that the ripening of the grapes is optimal. In the areas of Neubruch, Siebenmahd, Hollabren, Illmitzer Weg and Römerstein, red varieties such as Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, St. Laurent, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Pinot Noir are cultivated, and white varieties are Pinot Blanc, Welschriesling, Grüner Vetliner, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer. Burgundian wines in particular are Christoph's source of inspiration, and he also appreciates the salinity of the orchards in Neusidlersee, which he says brings minerality to the wines.
There are a lot of French oak barrels in the farm's cellars, and the air-conditioned storage facilities enable long-term aging of the wines on the farm.
The AWC International Wine Challenge Vienna selected PMC Muenzenrieder as the best producer in Austria in both 2023 and 2024.
The winery has the Sustainable Austria certificate.
