Krone
The Rheingau has been known as an important region in German wine production for centuries, because it was precisely there that the use of noble mold in the production of sweet wines was invented, the country's first wines classified as grand cru were created, and even Goethe wrote admiringly about the red wines of Assmanshausen. Already from the middle of the 16th century, there was a well-known inn called Krone in Assmanshausen, to which a winery and a 60-meter cellar were built in 1860. At the end of the century, the Krone winery and hotel had ended up in the ownership of the Hufnagel family.
The activities continued within the same family until 2006, when a new heir could no longer be found in the family. The hotel was then transferred to the Lohbeck family, known for their hotel operations, and the following year, the Wegeler-Driesenberg family, who had long practiced viticulture in the area, took over the management of the winery together with the previous owner, Botho Jung. When time left Botho Jung in 2014, Anja and Tom Drieseberg continued to write the farm's history, and thus the story of Krone's historical name continues, linked together with the story of Weingut Wegeler.
Krone joined the Rheingau VDP organization in 2016. The winery, which gained fame especially in the American market with its spätburgunders, is today known as one of the best red wine producers in the Rheingau.
