François Thienpont
François Thienpont is part of the famous Thienpont wine family, which owns several famous Bordeaux wineries, such as Vieux Château Certan, Le Pin and Château Pavie-Macquin. François's grandfather Georges started the family's wine business from Belgium in the 1920s when he bought the Château Troplong-Mondot farm, which he continued in 1935. Since then, the family story has been continued not only by Georges' three sons, but also by their children and grandchildren. François himself studied viticulture and wine business in France, but also gained experience in the United States working in wine distribution. In 1983, among other things, François presented Le Pin's 1981 vintage for the first time to prominent wine writers in the country, such as Robert Parker.
In 1985, François returned to his home region and began to be responsible for the sales and marketing of the wines of his brother Nicolas' winery, Château Puygueraud. At the same time, he determinedly began to raise the reputation of the forgotten wines and regions of the right bank of Bordeaux not only among wine professionals, but also among consumers. Today, François runs a company called François Thienpont Wings, which sells not only his family's wines, but also wines from other Bordeaux's best estates around the world.
As his latest project, François produces 100% Merlot, the grapes of which grow on the Monbadon plateau east of Saint-Emilion in orchards that have been cultivated for 10 years using completely organic methods.
